Freckles
Freckles is about 25 years old and has been part of Joey’s Home since 2014. He was surrendered by a caring owner who wanted to make sure he was properly looked after once her daughter lost interest in riding. He’s had a bum knee since he was young, which limits what he can do, but it hasn’t touched his gentle spirit. Freckles is one of those horses you can trust completely—steady, kind, and endlessly patient. Little kids can ride him safely, and he seems to love the attention as much as they love him. He’s not adoptable due to his age and knee issue, but he’s sponsorable and deeply loved by everyone at the rescue. Freckles is living proof that sweetness and age go hand in hand.

Marley
Marley is a proud Quarter Horse with a big personality and even bigger appetite for life (and alfalfa). He’s strong, confident, and happiest when he’s got room to stretch out and show off. Marley’s story is one of resilience — a reminder of how good care and second chances can bring out the best in any horse. Marley has a medical condition, Navicular and has to wear special shoes.
Available for: Adoption to the right human, Sponsor, or Companion/ESA Horse

Jude
Jude, our sweet Jenny donkey, is as loyal as they come. She came to us needing steady care and has since become one of the herd’s most dependable friends. She’s got a quiet strength and a gentle heart, always curious and never far from her favorite humans.
Available for: Jude is sponsored by Michael Kennedy

Delta
Delta is a 22-year-old registered Paint mare who came from a local woman battling severe health issues. Her owner, struggling with diabetes and facing a leg amputation, could no longer care for her. Delta had been sitting unworked for at least four years before arriving at Joey’s Home, but she’s now in training to get a light refresher. Calm, gentle, and a little on the lazy side, Delta is the kind of steady, easygoing mare that makes everyone around her feel safe. She’s fully adoptable and would be a perfect match for someone looking for a quiet partner rather than a high-energy ride.
Available for: Delta has been adopted!

Polly
Polly came to Joey’s Home only a few months ago from Mia Ola’s, where her former caretaker was recovering from neck surgery and short on volunteers to handle the horses. She’s a stunning 14–15-year-old purebred Arabian mare with a background that’s nothing short of impressive. Originally trained by a top-tier Class A1 trainer for his daughter, Polly competed in eventing and even showed internationally. She’s elegant, athletic, and incredibly well-trained—one of those horses who still carries herself like she’s in the arena, even when she’s just walking around the paddock. Beneath all that polish, though, she’s soft-hearted and easy to love. Polly’s the kind of mare who turns heads for her beauty but keeps them for her grace.

Tzar
Tzar is a handsome black Tennessee Walker with a proud gait and a wise demeanor. His smooth stride and calm energy make him a favorite around the ranch. He enjoys his Bermuda hay and sunshine — proof that even the most regal horses enjoy the simple things in life. Tzar gets spooked under saddle and training in the round pen, but would be a great addition to a patient, experienced horse person.

Rikki
Rikki is about a year and a half old and came from an animal control seizure in Hemet involving nearly 80 neglected horses left to fight and breed in one pasture. He arrived at Joey’s Home when he was just two weeks old, alongside his unhandled mother, who was later sent to Wild at Heart for training and a new start. Despite his rough beginning, Rikki’s grown into a tall, curious, and good-natured colt—already towering over Tzar and still growing fast. He’s adoptable, but only to an experienced home with solid training skills, and won’t be started under saddle until he’s at least five. For now, he’s safe, loved, and learning what it means to be handled with care instead of chaos.

Esse
Esse is a striking Percheron-Quarter Horse cross—big, bold, and absolutely stunning. She came from a woman in Morongo who asked Joey’s Home to help rehome her. Esse had been trail-ridden but showed a stubborn streak and a strong will; she prefers to move on her own terms. Beneath that, she’s a deeply sweet mare who just needs a little refresher training to remind her how to work in partnership again. At around 22 years old, she’s sound, rideable, and brimming with potential. She’s also built a close friendship with Snip, showing the kind of loyalty that defines the best horses at the rescue.

Buck
Buck is about 28 years old and likely part draft horse, carrying the big build and soft eyes that come with that heritage. He came to the rescue after being adopted from another organization, then quickly found his way into the heart of a family who had adopted from Joey’s Home before. For years he lived a good life as their steady trail horse, until his stablemate passed and his owner fell seriously ill. When she could no longer care for him, she asked that he come back here—no questions asked. She still loves him enough to pay for his spot. Buck isn’t up for adoption now, but he’s still lively, affectionate, and partial to a good butt scratch. He may be old, but he’s got all the charm and wisdom of a horse who’s seen it all.
Available for: Buck is sponsored by his original owner still

Seema
Seema arrived at the rescue when she was 10 after being abandoned at a rental house in Flamingo Heights. Before that, she’d been sold for $500 to someone who rode her into the ground on hard dirt roads—too heavy for her and too careless to notice her pain. The abuse fused her hocks and left her arthritic, but not broken. Six years later, she’s still the comic relief at the rescue: smart, sassy, and full of personality. Seema loves attention and occasionally goes out as a companion horse, though she’s known to be a little ornery when the mood strikes. She’s a sanctuary horse now, loved for her spirit and still looking for sponsors to help her live out her life comfortably.

Zion
Zion’s story is one of survival. He came to Joey’s Home emaciated, broken, and terrified—rescued from a Mexican rodeo where he had been used as a tripping horse. In that brutal practice, horses are roped by their legs and deliberately thrown to the ground for sport. By the time he arrived, he was covered in wounds, starved, and emotionally shut down. It took months of care, consistency, and compassion before he even began to trust again. Now in his mid-twenties, Zion has healed physically, but his past lingers in small ways—he flinches at sudden movement, watches new people closely, and always keeps one eye on the exit. Even so, he’s gentle, intelligent, and calm—a perfect candidate for therapy or companionship, where his quiet strength could help others heal too. He’s living proof that even the most traumatized souls can find peace when they’re finally safe.
Available for: Zion is currently sponsored but would make an amazing Companion/ESA Horse
-
Cody
Cody is a buckskin stallion who came to Joey’s Home after being abandoned at a boarding stable. A man found him, claimed he was a 15-year-old gelding, and brought him to the rescue—but it turned out Cody was still intact and badly lame. Years of being worked hard as a Mexican rodeo horse left him with a fused fetlock and permanent damage. Now around 20 years old, he’s gentle, well-mannered, and surprisingly calm for a stallion. He’s slated to be gelded soon and receives Osteomax and Adequan injections to manage his pain. Though he’ll never be rideable, Cody’s kind nature and resilience make him a perfect companion horse, finally living the peaceful life he should’ve had all along.

Miria
Miria’s life turned around after being spotted on Craigslist. A supporter urged the rescue to check on her, and it’s a good thing they did. When they arrived, her hooves were overgrown and misshapen, and she’d been ridden long distances by two overweight riders despite her pain. Because her heels were worn down and never properly trimmed, her hooves became permanently damaged, making her walk painfully on her heels. Now in her mid-twenties, Miria is safe, cared for, and finally free from neglect. She’s not regularly ridden, though she could handle a gentle walk in the right hands. Mostly, she’s a companion horse—sweet, stoic, and grateful for a life that no longer hurts.

Dakota
Dakota came from an older man who’d kept her for his grandchildren to ride on a lead line. When age caught up with him, he asked Joey’s Home to take her in. She’s a kind old mare with Cushing’s disease, which gives her that telltale long, shaggy coat, but she’s managed well on one tablet a day. Her swayback means she can’t be ridden, and she’s not the friendliest with other horses, preferring her space and human company. Dakota’s the definition of a one-person companion—devoted, opinionated, and still dignified despite the wear of time.

Snip
Snip’s story is bittersweet. She was surrendered when her previous owner, who had terminal cancer, could no longer care for her. Snip had been bonded with another horse, Red, who later passed away suddenly. The loss devastated her—she screamed and called for hours, even after being given time to say goodbye. Now in her thirties, Snip wanders the property freely as one of the rescue’s gentle elders. She’s formed a close friendship with Essie and Buck, her chosen herd now. In her working days, Snip was a pony sweep horse—kids rode her in endless circles for hours at a time, which left her back deeply swayed. Despite it all, she’s kind, steady, and still full of quiet resilience.
Available for: Snip is our mascot here at the ranch, but she would love a Sponsor.
